What KUOS is building, what the preview supports, and how to evaluate it with KUOS ApS.
What is KUOS?
KUOS means Knowledge Universe OS. It is a knowledge-first, agentic operating environment for organizations, built on NixOS. Its product direction is to turn company knowledge and existing data into useful agents and applications.
What makes it agentic?
The intended model combines configurable Agents, reusable Skills, deterministic Tools and MCP connections. Work coordinates execution under policy. Complete team orchestration is still being developed; it is not established by the current scaffold.
What can I evaluate today?
The inspected console preview includes a native Rust CLI, system diagnostics, local Markdown/text indexing, role presets and advisory capability plans. No verified public installer is advertised. Ask KUOS ApS about a guided evaluation.
Can KUOS connect my existing database?
A read-only PostgreSQL Sidecar is a required V1 journey. Business-data Sidecar execution is not yet verified in the inspected kit. Synchronization and controlled writes are separate later permissions; connection should not require migrating your system.
Does my company data leave my infrastructure?
That depends on the deployment and enabled providers. Local-only AI is the intended privacy option; external model APIs and connected services can transmit data. Review each integration, permissions and provider terms. Local hosting alone does not establish compliance.
Is Community free for commercial use?
Use follows the licenses supplied with the exact source or artifact, including commercial-use rights where granted. Paid support is separate. Third-party software and model weights retain their own terms.
Do I need a GPU?
A GPU is optional in the product architecture. CLI diagnostics and deterministic services do not require one. Local model usefulness depends on hardware, model size and backend; validate your intended workload.
How does KUOS relate to NixOS?
NixOS supplies declarative infrastructure, generations and recovery. KUOS defines the knowledge, Agent, Work, integration and application experience. Hui Zhang, Ph.D. is Founder and Chief Architect; upstream software retains its attribution and licenses.
Can I run KUOS offline, on a LAN or in the cloud?
The console preview has local tools and offline documentation. Useful offline Agents depend on installed models and data. Persistent Portable, full LAN workflows and broad cloud deployment adapters are targets that need validation for each release.
Which languages and services are available?
The website supports English, Danish, German, Swedish and Norwegian Bokmål; technical articles are English. Product/model language support is separate. Commercial evaluation, deployment and support scope are agreed in writing with KUOS ApS.
